Darjeeling North Sikkim Tour Package
Package Overview: Siliguri / Bagdogra – Darjeeling 2N– Gangtok 3N– Lachung 2N – Yumthang Valley –Gangtok 3N- Siliguri/Bagdogra.
Day 01 : Siliguri/Bagdogra to Darjeeling (83 Km./ 3 hrs) :
On arrival at Bagdogra airport or Siliguri (NJP) railway station meet our representative, who will assist & give you briefing about your tour at the time of arrival & drive to the to Darjeeling (6,710 ft /2,050 mts , 77 Kms / 03 Hrs) through Hillcart road. The journey to Darjeeling follows all along the forested hills, small villages and beautiful tea gardens. On the way you will have a chance to see the famous Toy train running through the lush green tea gardens & undulating hills. The Queen of hills – greets you with all its grandeur of mountains ranges and valleys dotted with tea gardens and forests along with a blend of traditional heritage and modern cultures. We advised a relaxed evening and short walk around the Mall to enjoy the typical Hill life of Darjeeling in a painted landscape. Enjoy a comfortable overnight stay at hotel.
Day 02 : Darjeeling Sightseeing : We proceed early morning (around 4 am) towards Tiger Hill to experience the breath taking view of sunrise over Mt.Kanchandzonga (28,200 ft.) , Kabru , Pandim & the Everest range on the far horizon . On the way back visit Ghoom Monastery & Batasia Loop. After breakfast proceed for a half day excursion to Himalayan Mountaineering Institute (HMI) & Padmaja Naidu Himalayan Zoological Park (Thursday closed), Tibetan Refugee Self Help Center ,Peace Pagoda, Japanese Temple, Tea garden (outer view),Tenzing Rock, etc. Enjoy the scenic beauty of the mountain ranges while roaming through Darjeeling Mall.
Tiger Hill : Situated 13 kilometers from the town at an altitude of 2590 meters (8482 ft.), has earned international fame for its magnificent view of the sunrise over the "Kanchanjunga" and the great eastern Himalayan peaks. Even Mount Everest, the world's highest peak, is visible from here.
Ghoom Monastery : On the way back from Tiger hill we will visit the Ghoom Monastery on the Ghoom spur. This monastery is one of the oldest Buddhist monasteries in India, 12 ft high statue of Lord Buddha Built in 1875 by Lama Sherab Gyatso. The specialty of this monastery is that it contains the statue of the 'Future Coming Buddha' known as Maitreye Buddha.
Batasia Loop and War Memorial : Aboard the Toy Train from Siliguri to Darjeeling just below Ghoom and 5 kms from Darjeeling is the Batasia Loop , an engineering marvel and feat. Almost imperceptibly, the railway line negotiates a circle and descends 1,000 ft in altitude. From Batasia - windy place - one can watch a great view of Darjeeling perched on the slopes of hills and Mt. Kanchenjunga in the far horizon.
Padma Naidu Himalayan Zoological Park : Established on the 14th of August, 1958, the zoo was dedicated to the memory of Padmaja Naidu, former Governor of West Bengal on the 21st November, 1975. Considered as one of the best zoos in the country, it is the only centre that breeds the tibetan wolf in captivity. Breeding programmes for the endangered red panda, snow leopard and the siberian tiger are also carried out at PNHZP. The zoo is open on all days except on Thursdays and other national holidays.
H.M.I. : The Himalayan Mountaineering Institute was set up by the local hero Tenzing Norgay Sherpa following their successful ascent on Mount Everest on 28 May 1953 . The oldest mountaineering institute in the country carries out various mountaineering courses every year. Apart from Tenzing, legendary mountaineers like Nawang Gombu ( First man to climb Everest twice ) and Lattoo Dorjee Sherpa have helped build the reputation of this pioneering institute. The institute is presently under the purview of the Ministry of Defense, Government of India .
Tea Garden: : Approximately 40 minutes walking distance from Darjeeling bazaar, you can see and feel the real tea plantations of famous Darjeeling tea that called Happy Valley.
Tibetan Refugee Self Help Center: : After His Holiness escaped from Tibet, thousands of Tibetan refugees came to reside in India. Darjeeling too became a home away from home for the Tibetans in exile. Tibetan Refugee Self-Help Centre established on October 1, 1959 and the residents of the centre are today known for their beautiful handicrafts e.g excellent carpets, woolen goods, woodwork, etc, which are famous across the globe.
Day 03 : Darjeeling to Gangtok (120 Km./ 5 hrs) : Today we drive to Gangtok via Peshok road. The view of the fascinating tea gardens at Peshok with the Kanchenjunga snow range and Rangit River Valley. Reach Tista Bazaar and follows the winding roads and a picturesque drive through Himalayan hills to Gangtok. Gangtok the capital town of Sikkim . Check into hotel and get refreshed for a free leisure evening. Recommend to roam in MG road around the Mall to enjoy the typical Hill City life of Gangtok and enjoy a comfortable overnight stay in hotel.
Day 04 : Gangtok sightseeing : After our breakfast we will proceed for local sightseeing in or around Gangtok including Tashi view point, Ganesh Tok, Hanuman Tok. These viewpoints offering panoramic view of snow capped Himalayan peaks & Gangtok city. Proceed to visit Rumtek Monastery/ Jhakri Falls , Institute of Tibetology to have a glance of Tibetan antics, Orchid House ( Collection of Himalayan orchids), Enchay Monastery ,Dodurl Chorten etc.
Day 05 : Excursion – Tsomgo Lake & Baba Mandir. : After breakfast drive for a memorable excursion tour to Tsomgo Lake (12,400 ft. /39 km), one of the highest altitudes Himalayan Lake. This beautiful oval shape lake almost 1 km long with its average depth 50 ft is situated in east Sikkim Himalaya. From here we will drive further 15 km to Baba Mandir. One can further drive to Nathula pass (12,000ft.) towards china border depending upon the accessibility of the route. We will back to Gangtok by late afternoon. Evening is free for roaming around M.G Marg, the popular Shopping area in Gangtok.
Day 06 : Gangtok to Lachung (124 km./ 5 hrs / Alt-8600ft.) : We will proceed early morning towards Lachung . The route meanders through small villages flanked by fields and valleys upto the forest grove of Kabi Langchuk. Shinghik comes next with its promises of one of the most glorious views of Kunchanjungha. Situated at an altitude of over 4000ft Singhik offers a desired break to the travelers on the way to Lachen or Lachung for the magnificent view of Kunchenjungha and its neighboring peaks. From here a half an hour uphill walk takes you to an ancient monastery. We will have our lunch on the way. Enroute we will stop for Chungthang- the confluence of Lachen Chu and Lachun Chu (river) and Vimnala falls water falls on your way to Lachung. Reach Lachung in the late afternoon. Check in at hotel and enjoy a comfortable overnight stay.
Day 07 : Excursion to Yumthang (24 km./ Alt.- 11,800ft.) : After breakfast we will heading for a full day excursion to Yumthang, also known as the valley of flowers in Sikkim at 12000ft (3600M) . The journey from Lachung to Yumthang offers an unforgettable virgin landscape covered with rhododendron and numerous types of Orchids which bloom in different colours from April to May. The entire area goes under snow during November to March. The hot springs and mesmerizing scene with yaks grazing on flower - carpeted meadows on the backdrop of snow peaks are the added attractions. Spend some spellbound time at the valley and return to Lachung. Lunch at Hotel.After Lunch roam around the little village on the bank of Lachung river – one of the sources of Tista, and enjoy the beauty of nature that surrounds you. Also visit to the small Monastery at Lachung.
Day 08: Lachung to Gangtok ( 5hrs) : After breakfast drive to Gangtok via same route . Enroute enjoy the natural beauty of North Sikkim.
Day 09: Gangtok to NJP/IXB (135 km. / 4.30 hrs.) : After completing a farewell party drive back to Siliguri (NJP)/ Bagdogra (IXB) via same route for your onward journey with happy memories to cherish.
