As you step onto the rugged terrain of North Sikkim, a profound sense of solitude envelopes you. The crisp mountain air whispers tales of untouched beauty, and you, a lone adventurer, are ready to unravel the secrets that this remote gem holds.

Let the story begin..

The journey commences as you arrive at New Jalpaiguri Railway Station or the Bagdogra Airport. After that, navigate through the winding mountain roads, each turn revealing a breathtaking panorama of snow-capped peaks. Gangtok welcomes you with open arms, its simplicity and charm setting the stage for a soul-stirring expedition.

Chapter One,

The first chapter of the solitary odyssey starts at Gangtok. After conquering a journey of about 6 hours to reach Gangtok, embrace the warmth of the locals, whose smiles resonate with the purity of the Himalayan landscape. Engaging in conversations unveils stories of resilience and traditions that have withstood the test of time. A cup of tea shared with newfound friends becomes a ritual, bridging the gap between cultures.

Permits are available at Gangtok to travel further to Lachen or Lachung. Your operator of the Sikkim Tour Package or the hotel authorities will arrange it for you. Explore the lively city of Gangtok by walking through the street of M. G. Road. The Tibetan Market and Lal Bazaar have a lot to offer. Let the night pass by after dinner to welcome a beautiful dawn, awaiting the journey towards Lachen.

Chapter Two,

Get up very early to reach the next destiny that is Lachen. En route to Lachen nature has a treasury to offer sights to behold. Halt at the Seven Sister Waterfalls, one of the prominent attractions of North Sikkim. The beautiful cascade falling from a great height will definitely blow your mind. During the rainy season, the waterfall turns truly majestic. Walk through the boulders and get down the riverbed to enjoy a closer view of the waterfall. There is another viewpoint on the way. The spot offers a breathtaking view of the rolling mountains on all sides. The next stop will be at Naga Falls, also wrapped in nature’s beauty. Reach Lachen in the evening and retreat to the comforts of the accommodation.

Chapter Three,

Again early in the morning, say at 6 am, and start for Gurudongmar Lake the star attraction of North Sikkim located at a high altitude of 18000 ft above the sea level. It is about 60 km from Lachen. On the way to the lake, your cab will pass through the Kalapathar, a cold desert, where you will find zero greenery. The entire area is full of huge snow-covered rocks. The place has its own surreal beauty and will mesmerize you. Give a halt if you wish. As you are traveling solo, you get the entire me-time when you treat your eyes with great scenery, and simultaneously currents of imagination flow through your mind. As you will be nearing Gurudongmar Lake, the terrain around you will change drastically. Everything around you will seem like a movie set. The lake is considered sacred by the Buddhists, Sikhs and Hindus and has interesting stories attached to it. The nature over here feels pure and heavenly. Drive to Lachung after the nostalgic day.

Chapter Four,

The destinations for the day would be the Zero Point and the Yumthang Valley. There are no roads beyond Zero Point and therefore it is named as Zero Point and this area is quite close to Indo-China borders. The Yumthang Valley is a haven for nature enthusiasts. Drive back to Gangtok and depart from Gangtok the next day to mark the end of the solo trip.

The journey back is not just a physical return but a nostalgic revisiting of the moments that defined your solo adventure. Sikkim remains a sacred space in your heart, a testament to the transformative power of solitary exploration. To conclude, the solo trip to North Sikkim becomes more than a travelogue; it's a chapter in the book of your life where the mountains are not just a destination but a silent companion in your journey of self-discovery. Sounds poetic, but true!
