As, this beautiful lake is situated in the restricted zone of the Sikkim, which is restricted for the civilians, so Indian nationals need an inner line permit to visit the lake. The foreign nationals are required to get a special permit to visit this lake. With the oval shape and stretched in the 1 km, the lake offers an amazingly breathtaking view. The lake is also considered pious by the local residents 15 meters deep and is considered sacred by the local people. During the winter season, the lake gets covered with the sheet of ice, but its beauty has its charm in the summer season when the blue water of the lake reflects the adjacent White Mountain peaks and sapphire colored sky.

Nathu La Pass

The road to the Nathula crosses through the famous Tsomgo lake and is one of the highest altitude motorable roads in the world. It takes around 3 hours to reach Nathula from Gangtok. Once this pass was the major passage route, known as the old silk route, connects the India to Tibet before it closed in 1962. Only Indians are permitted to visit till the India-China border at Nathula and that too only 4 days in a week – Wednesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday. Indians too can visit this place by obtaining a special permit from the designated officials. You can consult any registered travel agency in Sikkim to help you to obtain the permits easily. Foreign nationals are not permitted by any means to visit at the Nathu La pass.

Lachung
